Why Solo Podcasting is Your Most Powerful Business Tool: Stand Out and Grow Your Audience Without Guest Interviews

Every day, you are undertaking different activities to grow your business.
The question is, are you being counterintuitive and inadvertently pushing some people away?
To succeed in business, you must believe your ability to solve a problem for an audience has some unique qualities that will drive people to you.
Business is a constant fight for the spotlight.
We have all been to networking events where it’s a battle to stand out from the crowd and be memorable enough to attract some interest.
I attended one recently where humour was being used to great effect to entertain and draw attention to the business.
Look at any advertising you see; the creativity needed to get people to watch is a huge factor, be it a great headline, a catchy tune, an interesting image, an engaging video or all of the above.
It’s a battle we fight every day in business.
I am grateful you have chosen to read this post because this in itself is part of the equation of attracting more eyeballs; what you do on social media is essential in staying in people’s consciousness.
Don’t scroll past…keep reading!!!!!
It’s the same at a networking event; you are hoping the people attending don’t switch off.
Look at me, look at me, look at moi!!!! (not a typo there…it’s for all the Aussie Kath & Kim fans)
My question for you to consider is if it is so hard to stand out, should you sacrifice your time rather than maximise it?

Think before you invite guests in; it may harm your business

I come from a background in talk radio, where it is so cut-throat to get on the air and stay there because there are only so many slots available.
Podcasting has turned that on its head, and it is a fantastic tool for businesses to use because there are no real limits.
It’s your time to engage the audience, controlling the conversation and the messages that are then available for you to share in multiple ways as and when you want.
It’s then available to a broad audience as and when they want, making it business gold.
So why go blindly into inviting guests onto your territory?
There are many guest-based podcasts, but they do more harm than good for business.
Here is what happens on most business shows I listen to (and I am not talking about the business celebrity podcasts like Diary of a CEO):

  1. The host does not have a background in the media / worked as a journalist
  2. The quality of the questions asked is clearly too pre-thought-out (and mostly informed by AI), so they are not really listening
  3. They have forgotten the whole reason they are doing the show – to be seen as the expert

When you have a guest on your podcast, here is what happens most of the time:

  • The host forgets to give them enough air time and comes over as ego-driven
  • The host becomes a supporter of the guest, pushing them forward instead
  • The host becomes the fan, so all their credibility goes out the window

Please share in the comments whether on reflection shows you have heard or even been on fall into the above.
Those who follow me regularly will say, hey, but wait a minute, you have a guest-based podcast.
I do have the Biz Bites podcast, but the expertise I am demonstrating is my ability to lead a conversation with Thought Leaders because that is the service I offer as a point of difference in the market.
I make Thought Leaders stand out, so they don’t need a guest on their show; it can be just about them.
Even when they do have guests, I am still there to help lead the conversation and ensure they still have equal time to be seen as experts in their own right.
The short video taken from my Podcasts Done For You Show makes a point, but there is so much more to think about, so I encourage you to check out the full episode linked below.

My question for you is…
If you could own a space that is all about you and for your audience to share and to help expand it, and be in total control of the time, you are seen as the go-to person…do you want it?
