The concept of leadership is so often thrown about, but what is it that makes a great leader?
Leadership is a topic that often comes up when I am in conversation with people who themselves would be regarded as leaders.
Recently, I spoke with Kevin Black on my ๐๐ถ๐ ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ฑ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐, where he discussed it from a chaos perspective.
Watch the short excerpt and the episode (embedded below).
I read a couple of interesting ideas on the subject that said:
โข Followers often look to leaders superficially, worried more about the delivery of the message than whether there is any substance behind it.
โข Only leaders who truly care for those they lead can have their message heard.
โข โLeadership is a constant battle between the changes you know must be made and the changes people are willing to make. That is why the most visionary of leaders seem, in their lifetime, to have failedโฆBut in truth, they have not failed. Their success comes when others complete what they began.โ – Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks
In a business, this is about being able to get away and leave others in charge. ๐๏ธ
Leadership for me is fundamentally about:
โข Showing knowledge from the accumulation of expertise and experiences
โข Listening and responding to needs so you build your credibility
โข Being an influencer in your audience regardless of its size
These qualities all have one thing in common – a need to communicate them with your audience.
